Geothermal projects share £1.1m prize

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has nowadays introduced the winners in the second one spherical of the federal government’s Deep Geothermal Challenge Fund, awarding a share of £1.1m to projects run through Keele University, Newcastle and Durham University and Cofily District Energy in Southampton.

The investment will lend a hand the 3 projects perform exploratory paintings to evaluate the viability of plenty of other websites for business scale geothermal power technology.

Keele University has won £500,000 to drill a 1,200 meter borehole on its suggest sustainable campus, whilst Newcastle and Durham University will obtain £400,000 for a two kilometer deep borehole on the deliberate Science DCentral building in central Newcastle, and Cofily District Energy Limited will obtain £200,00 to lend a hand fund the refit of Southampton’s current deep geothermal smartly.
